After a year spent in collecting industrial leftovers, from plastics to buckwheat husks and cereal derivates, natural leather and locally sourced eggshells from bakery’s network, olabas is aimed to transfer the knowledge about how to set up from scratch a laboratory workshop where to produce locally, on an impactful scale, sustainable recycled materials for additive manufacturing technologies.
Sustainable materials and their use in the design, and the positioning of brands, is one of the key elements (and challenges) of the circular economy (CE). Beyond design, newly developed materials still struggle to reach markets and consumers. olabas is a first step to establishing a materials library-laboratory to collect, displaying industrial leftovers and bringing them back to the market through design and marketing education.
