Development of Smart Heated Orthopedic Supports (ORTOHEAD)

Project no.: PP59/2005

Project description:

Physical activity prolongs active life and improves life quality and well-being, serves in various diseases prophylaxis. However, passive manner of life, insufficient physical activity, various traumas, and degenerative changes due to ageing provokes various parts of the body and, accordingly, reduces physical activity even more as well as aggravates health problems. Due to low physical activity, deteriorate cognitive and motor functions. It is found, that compression prophylactic wear textile supports improve posture, reduce fatigue and exercise-related physiological stress, improve blood circulation and reduce chronic pain. Also, it is known that warmth has a positive impact on muscle performance, improves blood flow and reduces chronic pains. The development of an interactive orthopaedic textile support, in which controlled support compression of the problematic area is combined with interactively controlled heating, would be an effective and widely available remedy. This support would be largely instrumental in helping people of all ages suffering from chronic pain due to sedentary lifestyle and age-related degenerative processes. In orthopaedics this interactive textile support would be a completely new generation and quality preventive measure. During the project, it is planned to develop and produce an orthopaedic textile support with controlled compression and interactively controlled heating for improving posture and relieving pain and stiffness.
