The Department of Production Engineering of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Design of the Kaunas University of Technology has been cooperating with the Open Air Museum of Lithuania in various research and study projects since 2012. Currently, the museum is an associate partner of the ERASMUS+ KA project “4DCulture”.
During this and previous projects, dissemination events, various educations, excursions about Lithuanian folk textiles, especially clothes, exhibitions, etc., were organized in the museum. A lot of folk textiles, especially home textiles (bedspreads, towels, rugs, tablecloths, etc.) are collected and exhibited in the interiors of the museum’s homesteads, but the museum has accumulated more than 24,000 exhibits of textiles and their production tools, which are stored in the museum’s funds.
The participants of the dissemination seminar held during the implementation of the project were introduced to the main elements of the Lithuanian folk costume – shirts, skirts, trousers, aprons, vests, sashes, headdresses and shoes, highlighting their raw materials, models, decoration, etc.
