On Wednesday, October 16 Kaunas Žalgiris Arena will become a meeting point for young people interested in exploring their career prospects in Lithuania and abroad. KTU WANTed Career Days 2019, the largest career fair in the Baltics, will be organised by the Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) for the 15th time. Last year, over 9 thousand people participated in the event.

The main partner of the event is ABB; more than 100 local and international companies from IT, transport and logistics, finance, management, telecommunications, chemistry, food industry, energy, construction, furniture industry, trading sectors are taking part in the event. Continental Automotive Lithuania, Hella Lithuania, Centric IT Solutions Lithuania, TransUnion Lithuania, Metso, Palink, which owns IKI network, SEB Global Services, Ignitis Group, Transcom, Gjensidige are among the active participants of the Career Days.

Opportunities for young people

The WANTed Career Days 2019 activities will take place in 3 different areas. The Career Zone will accommodate companies’ and organisations’ exhibition stands. The Innovation Alley will offer interactive workshops, activities organised by the companies and organisations, and various innovative solutions. The charismatic speakers, successful businessmen and society figures will share their insights during the WANTed Talks conference.

The visitors of the fair are encouraged to use an electronic system for exchanging contacts that enables them to leave their contacts and CV for any employer by touching a beamer with their smart badge. Last year, the system was highly appreciated for its functionality.

KTU WANTed Career Days will also provide information about the possibilities of acquiring study and work experience abroad, through Erasmus+ programme which allows students to receive funding for their activities for up to 12 months.

“This event is for the young people from all over Lithuania”, says Kristina Skučiene, the Head of Student Affairs Department.

The organisers of this free event invite students, alumni and high school students. The idea to invite pupils to the career fair was expressed by the businesses.

“This year the focus will be on high school students. Companies will welcome them to communicate in the stands and will prepare various engaging activities to help them in choosing a profession”, says Skučiene.

New participants in the market

Over the past 15 years, KTU Career Days has grown into a contemporary, innovative, unconventional event in Kaunas.

“Traditionally, the annual career fair is organised not from inertia, but because of its value to the participants”, says Skučiene.

The discussions and the activities during the event helped many participants to find a job or an internship, get acquainted with the innovations in the market, find ideas for dissertations, and to get an overview of the job market.

The organisations say that the benefits of participation in the event is building the network of potential employees, creating an image of a reliable employer among the young people, and also developing partnerships in the job market.

“Even the companies that are still considering their entry into the Lithuanian market have expressed a wish to attend Career Days. Such companies are interested in assessing the potential and the opportunities of Lithuanian students”, says Rimantė Sedziniauskienė, the Head of the Partnership Development Office at KTU.

According to her, KTU will also introduce itself as a company at the event.

“We would like to remind that the University, with its study and research departments, is one of the largest employers in Kaunas. At our stand you will find out about the jobs offered by the KTU and the career opportunities of a lecturer or a researcher”, says Sedziniauskienė.

KTU WANTed Career Days 2019 will take place on Wednesday, October 16 at Kaunas Žalgiris Arena (Karaliaus Mindaugo Avenue 50). More information about the event: https://careerdays.ktu.edu/
